 Conceptual Design:

Precision Design is able to take simple hand sketches that describe the problem or mission in concept form with no dimensions or scale and work from that toward a finished product. Having the years of experience of building and owning many aircraft gives a real advantage over competitors.

Artist Concept:

Precision Design works with Bill Dale from Bill Dale Designs to generate professionally drawn concepts from verbal instructions and our simple conceptual sketches. Bill is best know for his work with Bell helicopter.

CAD/Solid Modeling:

Precision Design uses several CAD (Computer Aided Design) programs for its work. Many programs have been tried in the past with varying degrees of success. In 2003 Precision Design choose Solidworks for its primary CAD program due to its robustness and its ability to translate across many platforms. The CFD program we use is integrated into Solidworks as well. Typically the customer has done some work which can be readily implement into our virtual office system.

CFD Studies:

Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) [digital wind tunnel] Precision Design uses the most advanced codes able to simulate multiple properties, phases, and rotating solids in its work. Currently there are only two commercial codes presently available to perform this kind of work. We are using CFdesign by Blue Ridge Numeric. This is a very stable code with excellent product support

FEA Studies:

Finite Element Analyses (FEA) simulates the structural loading conditions to accurately predict parts sizing.

Precision Design uses NASTRAN for its FEA work. Nastran is able to solve for multiple load cases and also to solve non isotropic material properties. This program will be retired soon in favor of more advanced multi-physics programs.

Inboard Profiles:

Inboard profiles and other 2D and 3D drawings and models represent the various systems with in the aircraft. When plotted to full scale From our HP650 plotter these drawing reduce errors due to layout techniques.

Construction:

Precision Design uses in-house  developed prototyping techniques and methods for construction as a low cost alternative to more expensive processes. One example is parts cut from water jet. We simply make a drawing to represent the profile which is sent to the local machine shop and two days later the part arrives by truck.

Flight Testing:

Precision Design is familiar with flight testing procedures and industry specialists.
